Milivoj Juras was born 1970 in Šibenik, Croatia. A very musical boy, he sang in the municipal children's choir Zdravo maleni . It was at the regular concerts that the choir gave at Šibenik's Municipal Theatre and at the International Festival of the Child in Šibenik that he first appeared as a soloist. After graduating from secondary school, he studied biotechnology at Zagreb University.
Already in his first term he auditioned for the Ivan Goran Kovačić University Choir. Singing in such an eminent choir, which gave concerts in Zagreb and throughout Europe - from the Vienna Musikverein to Maggio Musicale Firoentino - he became acquainted with almost all of the most important choral works. This experience was crucial for his career: he decided to become a professional singer.
Having obtained a degree in biotechnology, he began to train as a singer under Professor Senia Vidali Žebre in Ljubljana. After several years of study with this distinguished music teacher, he mastered the technique of the Old Italian school of singing based on methods developed by the famous Professor Ghirardini, who was Senia Vidali's teacher. In 1997 he made his debut at the Zagreb National Opera in the part of messenger in Verdi's Aida.
During the next two seasons he successfully created a number of minor and supporting roles in Verdi's Il trovatore and La Traviata, Lisinski's Porin and Mozart's The Magic Flute. He also sang the part of Andro at the premiere of the opera Seoski svatovi (A Peasant Wedding) by Juraj Stahuljak. At the same time he continued his training in Ljubljana, improving his singing technique and working on the Heldentenor repertoire. |
In the 1999/2000 season came his first major role, that of Prince Golytzin in Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina at the Zagreb Opera. On that occasion he had the pleasure to sing with the famous singers - Ruža Pospiš Baldani and Tomislav Neralić. This performance has been recorded on CD. During the following seasons he sang in several operas, creating, among others, the role of Ismael in Verdi's Nabucco, Grigory-Dimitry in Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov and Robert in Bersa's Oganj (The Fire).
Milivoj Juras continues his vocal training with the distinguished teacher Glenys Linos, expanding his repertoire with Italian and French Heldentenor roles and focusing on Late Romantic German and Russian opera. He collaborates with prominent Croatian conductors, including Nikša Bareza, Veseljko Barešić, Miro Belamarić, Pavle Dešpalj, Vladimir Kranjčević and Loris Voltolini.
In addition to opera, he cultivates a concert repertoire and appears in concerts with the Zagreb Soloists and the Croatian Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra.
